COMPETITION COMMITTEE

The CQC Competition Committee provides judges for quilt shows throughout Colorado and Wyoming. Most of the shows that we judge are open to the public. We invite you to come and observe CQC judges in action! You’ll get to see lots of wonderful quilts and learn more about what quilt judges are evaluating.

The Competition Committee meets: 

 

> April 22, 2023  Spring Meeting 10-4:00 (anyone can join)

 

> July 29,  2023 (Zoom-mid "judging season" meeting - Judges and Scribes only)

 

> October 7, 2023  Fall Meeting (anyone can join)

We meet two times a year. Anyone is welcome to attend. What do we do? We judge competitive quilt shows, such as county and state fairs in Colorado and Wyoming, and local guilds upon request.

 

Requirements:

You must be a member of The Colorado Quilt Council

Attend two meeting a year

Be available during the months of June, July and August for judging venues

Travel to various venues assigned in Colorado and Wyoming

Some overnight travel involved

 

Scribes are not required to become a judge

To become a judge, you must scribe for a minimum of 2 years

A scribe must test and qualify before a panel of current judges

Duties: Scribe

Assist the judge

Become familiar with the Evaluation Form

Filling out the Evaluation Forms and record keeping forms

Be able to write for extended period of time

Good penmanship and spelling is desired

 

Duties: Judge

Provides required forms

Guides the scribe in their duties

Keeps a record of each judged venue and submits to Lead Judge

Be able to speak in front of spectators, sometimes microphones are used

Judge quilts at various venues

Be able to discuss questions asked by audiences

The following are all the Colorado Fairs that the CQC Competition Committee judges, that are open to the public. Many of these venues do not have adequate space for a large group of people to attend, so consider going with a friend or two, not a large group! Make sure to enter a quilt or quilts in your local County and State Fair. For specific entry dates and rules, please contact each fair directly.
